John Wayne Walding, 33 of Little Elm, Texas, served in the United States Army for 12 years with seven of those years being in the 3rd Special Forces Group, completing tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Despite losing his lower right leg while serving overseas, Walding was the first amputee to graduate Special Forces Sniper School. This decorated veteran was nominated by his brother because of his continued efforts to provide guidance and inspiration to fellow service men and women. As the grand prize winner of Crown Royal’s 2014 annual “Your Hero’s Name Here” program, Walding was able to attend his first ever NASCAR race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which happened to be named in his honor. As part of the VIP package, Walding took part in an once-in-a-lifetime at-track experience that included garage tours, pace car rides and concerts by Big Machine Label Group artists. He capped off the weekend by delivering the trophy bearing his name to race winner Jeff Gordon, officially titled the Crown Royal Presents the John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com, in Victory Lane.
